Silver Price Today: Silver Rates Rise in India and Global Markets; Check Latest Prices in Major Cities

Silver Price Today, August 17, 2026: Silver prices moved higher on Monday as the new trading week began. The precious metal recorded gains in the domestic futures market as well as in international trade. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), silver climbed during morning trading, while COMEX silver also remained in positive territory.

For consumers planning to buy silver jewellery, coins or bars, and investors tracking the precious-metals market, it is important to check the latest rates before making a decision. Retail prices may differ from futures-market quotations because of taxes, dealer margins and other local charges.

Silver Price Rises on MCX

Silver futures witnessed an upward move on MCX on August 17.

During morning trading, the price was reported around ₹2,37,841 per kilogram, after gaining more than ₹1,200 during the session. In the previous trading session, silver had closed around ₹2,35,924 per kilogram, according to the cited market data.

Another bullion-market quotation placed silver at approximately ₹2,38,780 per kilogram, highlighting how rates can vary depending on the market, source and timing of the quotation.

Silver Gains in International Market

The upward trend was not restricted to India.

Silver prices on COMEX were also trading higher during the session. According to the figures provided, international silver rose approximately 0.94% to around $65.72 per ounce.

At another point, silver was quoted near $65.81 per ounce, showing that international prices were fluctuating during trading hours.

Movement in global bullion markets is particularly important for India because domestic precious-metal prices are influenced by international prices as well as the rupee-dollar exchange rate.

What Happened in the Previous Session?

Silver had experienced selling pressure in domestic futures trading during the previous session.

The MCX September silver contract was reported down ₹836, or around 0.35%, at approximately ₹2,36,999 per kilogram during Friday's trade.

International silver, however, showed comparatively better strength, with New York prices reportedly gaining around 0.18% to approximately $65.44 per ounce.

The contrasting movements demonstrate how silver prices can change quickly based on international cues, currency movements and trading activity.

Why Do Silver Prices Keep Changing?

Silver prices are influenced by several domestic and international factors.

One of the biggest factors is global demand. Unlike gold, silver has significant industrial applications. It is used across sectors including electronics, solar energy and several manufacturing industries. Changes in industrial demand can therefore influence prices.

The US dollar and interest-rate expectations can also affect precious metals. Currency movements can change the cost of importing silver into India.

The rupee-dollar exchange rate is another important factor for Indian consumers. Even if international silver prices remain unchanged, a weaker rupee can make imported silver more expensive in the domestic market.

Geopolitical uncertainty, inflation expectations and investor demand for precious metals can further add to price volatility.

Why Retail and MCX Silver Prices Are Different

Consumers may notice that the silver rate quoted by a jeweller is different from the price displayed on MCX.

This is because MCX prices represent futures contracts, while retail quotations relate to physical silver sold in the market. Taxes, dealer margins, transportation, purity and other costs can influence the final retail price.

For example, the cited retail rate of around ₹2,36,000 per kilogram does not have to exactly match the MCX futures quotation of around ₹2,37,841.

What Buyers Should Check Before Purchasing Silver

Anyone buying physical silver should check the prevailing market rate and compare prices across reputable sellers. Purity is equally important, particularly when buying coins, bars or jewellery.

Customers should also ask for a proper invoice containing details of the product, purity, weight and applicable charges.

Investors, meanwhile, should remember that silver can experience sharp price swings. A strong rise over a few days does not guarantee that prices will continue moving higher.
